Science/measuring

THE FEET CAN MEASURE THE HEIGHT

The bones of the feet can tell a lot about a person. What do feet reveal about a person's height? Forensic anthropologists team up with law enforcers to help solve crimes.
Bones of the feet can reveal an interesting fact about an individual. Let's combine math with forensics to see how.

Aim:  To use forensic science techniques to measure the height of a criminal.

Material:

  1. Ruler
  2. A person to measure.
  3. A foot to measure.
  4. Meter ruler.

Steps:

  1.  Get a ruler.
  2.  Measure your shoe.
  3.  Measure the our height.
  4.  Record it on your chart.
Findings:

Name
Foot  (cm)
Height (cm)
Niko27cm166cm
Ryan22cm152cm
Lasa28cm174cm

Divide the length of each person's foot by his/her height. then multiply it by 100.

Conclusion:

What me and my group done today was measured each others foot and height. We measured Nikos foot and found out that it was 27cm and we also measured Ryan's foot and we found out that it was 22cm. Secondly we measured lasa's foot and he got 28 cm. After we measured our foots we measured our heights. Nikos height was 166cm and Ryan's height was 152cm and lasa's height 174cm.

Forensic Science

Definition:

5 Forensic Science topics;

  1. DNA.
  2. Fingerprints.
  3. Ballistics.
  4. Footprints.
  5. Clothes.

Finger prints

Aim: To look at the different types of fingerprints.

Materials:

  1.  Balloon.
  2.  Ink pad.
  3. Fingers.
Steps:
1. Put your finger on the ink pad.
2. Put your finger on the balloon.
3. Blow the balloon up with your mouth.
4. Place your finger on the powder.
5.Lift the plastic.
6. Put tape on the fingerprint on the powder.
7.  Peal it off.

Insert two pictures here of your fingerprints

Index finger print

Record the types of fingerprints from those in your group.

Name
Fingerprint 1 (Thumb)
Fingerprint 2 (index finger)
Aisa
Whorl

Kelesi
Loop

Questions:
Do people always have the same type of fingerprint on their thumb and index finger?
What was the most common type of fingerprint in your group?

Dusting fingerprints:

Aim: To learn how to lift hidden fingerprints from an object.

1. Lifting and Gathering fingerprints.

Equipment:
  1.  Plastic
  2.  White prouder
  3.  Brush
Method:
  1.  Put your fingerprint on the plastic.
  2.  Put white powder on the plastic.
  3. Grab a brush and brush the powder off.
  4. Put tape on the plastic then take it off.

Results:

Lifted fingerprints

Thumb print
Index finger print

Conclusion Questions:
The kind of fingerprint have is a whorl. To improve my finger results next time is that i could probably make my fingerprint a little bit darker.  Secondly next time i do this experiment i could do my other finger and scan it.

Science/Experiment/Home chemistry.

Aim: To make a filtration plant using household materials.

Water Filtration Plant

What is filtration?

Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.

Examples are:

  1. Pour one cup of Sand.

  2.  Tip in one cup of rocks.

  3. Pour in one cup of sand

  4. Pour in the water.

Materials

1.Bottle

2.Funnel

3.Rocks

4.Dirt

5.Scissors

6.Sand

7.Paper/for funnel

8.top of the bottle

Process - ( use verbs or doing words in each step )

Step 1

Cut the bottle.....

Step 2

Put the top half upside down .......

Fold the filter paper.

Add layers of ....

Pour both items in the bottle.

Get 1 cup of dirty water .......

Pour water in the bottle.

Pour dirty water into ......

Findings

Write a short sentence about the water every 1 minute.

Include 'How much water has filtered through', 'How fast it is dripping through', and 'How clear the water is'.

Minutes                          1.                         2.                   3.                    4.                       5.

Drops per minute:

Water colour:

Conclusion:

When we put the dirt, rocks and water in the bottle, the drips go very slow. The colour of our water, was a clearish and little bit dirty but clean colour. What made the water a little dirty was the dirt.
