Science/Aerodynamic.

Aim: To learn about flight and aerodynamics.

  • In your groups of 3 you will make a paper plane and measure its distance and behaviour.
  • In groups of 3 you will make a water rocket and record its distance and behaviour.
Image result for flight forces

Definition:

4 forces of flight:

  1.  Thrust.
  2.   Gravity.
  3.  Lift.
  4.  Drag.

Paper Plane:

Material: Piece of Paper

1. Fold it &
2. Fold it again

Steps:

1. Length the paper.
2. Fold the corners.
3. Fold the paper again then fold the corners again is well.

Findings:

Plane Type
Distance
Behaviour
Normal
5m

Straight

Ailerons
3m

Straight

Paper clip

5m
Straight

Conclusion:

We found that the normal plane flew straight for 5 metres. Secondly the Ailerons also directed straight as well and it flew 3 metres. Also with using the paper clip, the paper plane flew 5 metres and it flew straight but curved a little bit.
Here are some words and parts of a plane I have learned. What I have learned about thrust is that thrust directs the plane to where it is going, so if the captain turns the wheel to the left then the thrust will direct the plane to the left. Secondly I have learned lots about Gravity. For example, if you throw a pen up, it will come back down, that is Gravity, but if you are in space you can bounce around and fly because there is no Gravity in space and also in earth there is 100% of Gravity. The word i’ve also learned in science is Lift. Lift is the same thing as a elevator, so when you are in air the lift helps the plane stay in the air. Thirdly i’ve learned the word drag, drag is a force that holds the plane back when the plane is driving.

Overall i think this experiment was great. It was fun creating planes and learning the word Aerodynamic. I could be able try this out at home. Thankyou for reading my amazing blog post have a good day.

  1. Kia ora Aisa, you have recorded all of your findings correctly in the chart and then included all of these details in your conclusion, well done. In the materials section you have listed paper, you need to add a paper clip and you also used scissors to create the ailerons so these need to be added in as well. Please double check your steps and make sure that they are clear written as clear instructions for your readers to follow.
