Hurumanu/Decomposition

Aim: To learn about the rate that different materials decompose.

Image result for test tube rack

Hypothesis: I think that bread will decompose first by feeding on the sugars and carbohydrates of bread, the spores of mold can get the energy to reproduce by mitosis

Materials:

  1. Paper
  2.   Banana
  3.   Test tubes
  4.   Styron oam
  5.   Bread
  6.   Water
  7.     Test tube rack
Steps:
  1.   Get a test tube rack
  2. Put the test tubes into the rack
  3.   Put the banana into one of the tubes
  4.   Put the paper into the tubes
  5.   Put the bread into the tubes
  6.  Test the tubes

Hurumanu-Climate change

My Investigation on climate change

    ACIDIFICATION

DEFINITION:a very large expanse of sea, in particular each of the main areas into which the sea is divided geographically.

What is happening to the oceans?
    -

What does this do to shellfish?

HOW DOES CLIMATE CHANGE CONTRIBUTE TO THE ACIDIFICATION OF OUR OCEANS?

-Ocean acidification refers to decreasing levels of pH in the ocean, which makes the sea more acidic. It is the long-term change in seawater chemistry due to the absorption of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Roughly 30 percent of human-made CO2 is absorbed by the oceans.

DEFINITION: Trees provide them shelter from the weather and from enemies. Trees provide food in the form of fruits, nuts, leaves, bark, and roots. Even dead trees provide shelter and food for many insects.

    What are trees used for?

HOW DOES DEFORESTATION AFFECT THE CLIMATE?

-Burning or cutting down trees reverses the effects of carbon sequestration and releases greenhouse gases (including carbon dioxide) into the atmosphere. Furthermore, deforestation changes the landscape and reflectivity of earth's surface, i.e. decreasing albedo.

    ICE CAP MELT

DEFINITION: When the ice melts, the dark ocean surface that takes its place absorbs most of the incoming solar energy, causing the seas to get warmer and more ice to melt. ...

If all the ice melted what would happen?

HOW DOES ICE CAP MELT AFFECT CLIMATE CHANGE?

The primary cause of this phenomenon is ice-albedo feedback, whereby melting ice uncovers darker land or ocean beneath, which then absorbs more sunlight, causing more heating.

    WATER VAPOUR

DEFINITION:Water vaporwater vapour or aqueous vapor is the gaseous phase of water. It is one state of water within the hydrosphere. Water vapor can be produced from the evaporation or boiling of liquid water or from the sublimation of ice.

HOW DOES  WATER VAPOUR AND EVAPORATION CONTRIBUTE TO CLIMATE CHANGE?

Warmer air is able to hold more moisture. As the climate warms, air temperatures rise, more evaporation from water sources and land occurs, thus increasing the atmospheric moisture content.
