  5. Marshmallow
  6. Biscuit
  7. Glad wrap
  8. Tin foil
  9. Black plastic

  1. Measure the box
  2. Cut the centre of the box
  3. Cover the bit you cut, with tin foil
  4. Put a piece of black plastic on the bottom of inside of the pizza on the bottom
  5. Make a paper square that fits inside the pizza box and lays around the edge
  6. Put a marshmallow on top of a chocolate biscuit, place  it on a plastic plate and put it in the solar oven
  7. Put it in the sun to cook

Aim: To make a presentation that investigates different renewable energy's.

Section 1: Title Page

Make a title page that incorporates all renewable energy 's Hydro, Solar, Wind and Wave.

Section 2: Definitions

Define and provide a picture of each energy type.

  1. Hydro Energy
  2. Solar Energy
  3. Wind Energy
  4. Wave Energy
Section 3; Investigate each of the 4 Energy types.
( Hydro ,Solar ,Wind ,Wave )

  1. Type: (Hydro, Solar, Wind, Wave)
  2. Is it used in NZ ? Yes
  3. Other Countries that use it? Yes
  4. How is it used to generate electricity? Included in the definition is electricity and heat generated from solar, wind, ocean, hydro power, biomass, geothermal resources, and bio fuels and hydrogen derived from renewable resources
  5. Draw and label a diagram of the main parts of the electricity generator? This can be done on paper and uploaded or on a drawing program on your device. I do not want any Internet images or pictures. They must be hand drawn using a ruler and labelled.

Section 4: Renewable Energy in the future.

List 10 ways that renewable energy will be used in the future to replace our current activities.

Hurumanu Fossil fuel

Aim: To learn about the impact of fossil fuels on our environment.
What are the fossil fuels that are mined?

  1. Coal
  2. Oil
  3. Natural gas

Materials
1. Tooth pick
2.Plate
3. One choc chip cookie

STEPS:
1. Draw a picture of a cookie and a habitat what we chose which one of the fossil fuels come from. I picked the sea where the oil comes from.

2.We got the plate and the cookie and tried to get the chocolate chip out it without breaking the cookie with the toothpick. When it breaks that's what happens in the environment.

3. We did a drawing of the cookie in detail after we tried to get the chips out. They were all broken.

4. We did some writing about our habitat.

5. And finally, we did more writing about mining and how we can stop this.

Conclusion:
Overall today I have had fun doing this, and I have learned that you could get the chocolate out of a cookie with a tooth pick.

Hurumanu Wind power

Measuring weather.

Definitions:

  1.  Anemometer:
  2. Beaufort wind scale:

Anemometer

MATERIALS

  1. Sellotape
  2.   Pencil
  3.   Pin
  4.   Two sticks
  5.   Four cups

STEPS

  1.   Tape the cups on to each end of the stick
  2.   Tape the sticks together to make a cross
  3.   Pin the cross to the rubber of the pencil
  4. Go outside
  5. Measure the wind
Group Investigation.

Groups size: 5
Roles:
  • Timekeeper
  • Counter
  • Recorder
  • Anemometer Manager
  • Wind Manager
  1. Mount the anemometer in a place that has full access to the wind from all directions.
  2. When the time keeper says "Go", the counter in each group will count how many times the marked cup passes them in one minute and write it down.
  3. Repeat the above step four (4) times and record the number of spins on the chart.

FINDINGS

  • Record how many times it spins and record it in the table below.
  • You will need to time them and count the number of spins.

CONCLUSION:

Thus week we have been learning and looking at wind power and how it works. We watched a video of then windmill and how they built it. What I found phasinating was how the men got up to the top of the windmill and they put power and equipment in there. Also what I found

Fun facts about petrel birds/Reading task

Research:
It refers to the birds' tendency to return to the same nesting sites season after season. Storm Petrels are the smallest form of seabird in the world. “Petrel” refers to Saint Peter walking on water. Storm Petrels have weak legs that cannot support the bird for more than a few steps at a time on land.

My own facts:

If a person moves close to the petrel birds food it will make a noise with its beak like teeth snapping

Petrel birds can live up to fifty years

Petrel birds wingspan are two metres long

Petrel birds belong to the same bird family as albatrosses and shear waters

Southern giant petrel breed on the Antarctic coast

Giant petrel birds live at sea most of the time. They are scavengers. If they find a dead whale floating in the water, they would sit on it and tear off the flesh with their bills

Over the last twenty years, the number of southern giant petrels has decreased. Many of them get caught in long lines and trapped in oil spills

Hurumanu weather

1. Anemometer:
An instrument for measuring the speed of the wind, or of any current of gas.

2. Beaufort wind scale:
Beaufort wind scale Range of numbers from 0–17 representing the force of winds, together with descriptions of the corresponding land or sea effects. Beaufort 0 means calm wind less than 1km/h 0.6mph, with smoke rising vertically. Beaufort 3 means light breeze, 12–19km/h 8–12mph, with leaves in constant motion.

3. Typhoon:
  • Hurricanes can be up to 600 miles wide. ...
  • When they hit land, they can cause flooding and destroy buildings and cars.
  • Hurricane winds can blow up to 200 miles per hour.

  • In the center of a hurricane is the eye of the storm.

4. Moon son:
monsoon, which is a large sea breeze, occurs when the wind blows from the cooler ocean to the much warmer land mass.

5. What is it when the weather is really nice and turns into hail:
Hail is a form of solid precipitation. It is distinct from ice pellets though the two are often confused. It consists of balls or irregular lumps of ice, each of which is called a hailstone. Ice pellets fall generally in cold weather while hail growth is greatly inhibited .... Weather radar is a very useful tool to detect the presence of hail-producing
